Apartments on the Motława — what to know

The Motława flows through the very heart of old Gdańsk, and everything people come here for is built around it: Długie Pobrzeże with the Żuraw crane, the granaries on the island, the marinas and the boulevards. On this page we have gathered the apartments that stand right on the water — regardless of which district they formally belong to.

Where exactly. On Wyspa Spichrzów (Granary Island), on Jaglana and Chmielna streets, stands new development on the Nowa Motława — restaurants and marinas at your doorstep, the Old Town across the bridge. The eastern bank, along Angielska Grobla and Długa Grobla, is noticeably quieter, and the Żuraw crane is a few minutes' walk. Further north, by Sienna Grobla and Stara Stocznia, the water widens and the view takes in the old shipyard. Furthest from the centre, by the marina, the yachts are moored — and they are the view from the window there.

Distances (walking routes). From Wyspa Spichrzów to Długi Targ it is about 10 minutes across the Green Bridge. From the eastern bank to the Żuraw crane — from a few to a dozen or so minutes, depending on the address. From the marina, the walk along the embankment to the Żuraw takes about 20 minutes and is an attraction in itself.

Who this area suits. Those who come to Gdańsk "for the water": morning coffee overlooking the marina, an evening walk along the embankment, running on the boulevards instead of busy streets. Couples and families who want the Old Town within walking distance but prefer to come back to a quieter place for the night.

Who it suits less. Those looking for historic interiors — the buildings along the embankments are mostly new; the atmosphere of the old townhouses begins beyond the bridges.

Water view. A waterfront address does not automatically mean windows onto the river — some apartments face a courtyard or the street. Information about the view is stated directly in each apartment's listing.

Parking. Most apartments come with a parking space — if a given apartment has one, you will find that information stated directly in its listing.

Frequently asked questions

Can you see the water from an apartment on the Motława?

Not from every one — a waterfront address does not always mean windows onto the river. Information about the view is given in the listing of each specific apartment.

How far is it from the embankments to Długi Targ?

From Wyspa Spichrzów about a 10-minute walk across the Green Bridge, from the eastern bank a dozen or so minutes, from the marina about 25 minutes or a short ride.

What is the difference between the Motława and the Nowa Motława?

The Nowa Motława is the eastern arm of the same river — it flows around Wyspa Spichrzów on the side of Dolne Miasto and Długie Ogrody.

Is it noisy by the water?

Along the embankments with restaurants, near the Green Bridge, it can be lively until the evening in summer. A few hundred metres further, in the residential part, it is already quiet.

Are there apartments for families on the Motława?

Yes — along the embankments we have both apartments for two and units with separate bedrooms. Check the number of guests and the layout in each apartment's listing.
