Młode Miasto (Young City) — what to know

Młode Miasto is rising on the grounds of the former Gdańsk Shipyard. For years this area was closed off and empty; today, new residential buildings stand between the halls and cranes, and the old halls house clubs, galleries and spaces like 100cznia. In season, festivals and open-air events draw half the Tri-City here.

Our apartments are on Wałowa street and in its immediate vicinity — all in new buildings, from cosy apartments for two to two-bedroom units.

Distances (walking routes): the European Solidarity Centre — a few minutes. The Museum of the Second World War — about 10 minutes. Gdańsk Główny railway station — about 12 minutes, which makes this the most convenient area for anyone arriving by train: you walk from the platform to the apartment with no taxi and no transfers. The Żuraw crane — a quarter of an hour. Długi Targ — just under 20 minutes on foot or a few minutes by tram.

Who this area suits. Those arriving by rail. Those coming for a specific event — a concert, a festival on the shipyard grounds, an exhibition at the ESC. People who prefer a neighbourhood with a nightlife of its own over the tourist core. It is usually also one of our most affordable areas.

Who it suits less. Someone coming solely for the Old Town who wants it outside the window — Długi Targ is almost a twenty-minute walk from here. You should also know the area is still under construction — in places it looks like a building site, because it is one.

Parking. Most apartments come with a parking space — if a given apartment has one, you will find that information stated directly in its listing.

In the evening. Wałowa is at the perfect distance from the festival part of the shipyard: events on Elektryków street are a few minutes' walk away, yet the music cannot be heard in the apartments. Close, and yet quiet.

A bit of context. It was here, in August 1980, that the agreements which started the Solidarity movement were signed; the story of this ground is told at the ESC, literally around the corner. The name "Młode Miasto" — Young City — is itself six hundred years old: it was the name of a settlement that stood here before the Teutonic Knights demolished it. Today's development is the second attempt to build a city on this spot.
