Łąkowa — what to know

Łąkowa is the main street of the Lower Town (Dolne Miasto) — a district that stayed off the beaten track for years and is coming back to life thanks to revitalisation. It is quieter and greener here than in the city centre; the street layout and the Motława canals date back to the nineteenth century. This is an area with character, not one polished up for tourists.

Our apartments on Łąkowa are in the new buildings that completed the street's frontage. They are among the largest apartments we offer — with separate bedrooms, designed with families and groups travelling together in mind.

Distances (walking routes): the Żuraw crane — about 1.1 kilometres via the Stągiewny Bridge, around 14 minutes. Długi Targ — 15–16 minutes. The restaurants on Wyspa Spichrzów (Granary Island) — 10 minutes. The Museum of the Second World War — a quarter of an hour. Gdańsk Główny railway station — half an hour on foot or a dozen or so minutes by tram; the stop is right by Łąkowa.

Who this area suits. Groups and families who need a really large apartment with the Old Town within walking distance. Returning visitors who already know the Main Town. And anyone who wants to see Gdańsk off the trail: the canals, the Kamienna Grodza sluice, the greenery on the old ramparts — places the tour groups never reach.

Who it suits less. First-time visitors coming for two days — this is a district of its own, not an extension of the Old Town. The revitalisation is also uneven: next to renovated townhouses stand others still waiting for their turn, and it shows.

Parking. Most apartments come with a parking space — if a given apartment has one, you will find that information stated directly in its listing.

In the evening. Gdańsk is a very safe city and that includes the Lower Town — walking back from the Old Town in the evening is not a problem.

A bit of context. The Lower Town was built in the seventeenth century on floodplains protected by ramparts — hence the canals and sluices that regulate the water level to this day. The war spared this district more than the rest of the city centre, so the nineteenth-century buildings here are largely original, not reconstructed. Recent years have brought renovated boulevards along the Opływ Motławy and new housing — the buildings you stay in with us are part of that change.
