Dolne Miasto (Lower Town) — what to know

Dolne Miasto is a calm, historic district on the southern side of the Nowa Motława — with the atmosphere of canals, the Kamienna Śluza (Stone Sluice) and old bastions. The war treated it more gently than the rest of the city centre, so the nineteenth-century buildings here are largely original. Our apartments on Kamienna Grobla are large, with two bedrooms — comfortable for a family.

Distances (walking routes): Długi Targ — about 14 minutes. Wyspa Spichrzów (Granary Island) with its restaurants — a little over 10 minutes. The Żuraw crane — about 16 minutes. The greenery of the old bastions and the Opływ Motławy — directly in the neighbourhood.

Who this area suits. Returning visitors who already know the Old Town and are looking for an authentic, unpolished district. Families who need space. Walkers — the canals and ramparts are green routes the tour groups never reach, with spots for a picnic or a barbecue by the water.

Who it suits less. First-time visitors coming for two days with a checklist of monuments — the Old Town is within walking distance, but not around the corner. The district's revitalisation is ongoing and in places it shows.
