Most people’s first associations with Gdańsk are mainly history, beautiful architecture, atmospheric streets and the Baltic Sea. And yet, among these charming streets we can find real gastronomic gems.
Choosing favorite places is, of course, a subjective matter, but in this article I would like to share my favorite restaurants in Gdańsk – places to which I happily return when I am looking not only for delicious food, but also for a unique atmosphere and hospitality. Each of them has something unique to offer, something that makes it not just another restaurant on the city map, but a real culinary experience.
Pierogarnia Mandu – Elżbietańska Street
Mandu is one of those places in Gdańsk that I return to with real pleasure – perfect if you love dumplings in every possible form! They serve both traditional flavors that we have known for years, as well as modern and even oriental variations that can surprise you. I especially recommend trying the dumplings of the month, because the chefs in Mandu always have something special up their sleeve. The atmosphere of this place is not only delicious food, but also friendly service and a stylish, warmly decorated interior. And the popularity of Mandu is best evidenced by the queue that regularly forms in front of the place on weekends – it’s definitely a sign that it’s worth visiting!
Surf Burger – Garncarska Street
Just a dozen or so meters from Mandu, there is a real treat for burger lovers – Surf Burger! This is a place where they serve huge, juicy rolls, full of fantastic toppings that will delight your taste buds. Regardless of whether you are a fan of classic beef, delicate poultry, or are looking for a vegan version of a burger, everyone will find something for themselves here. I especially recommend the poultry Forfiter with thick-cut Belgian fries. Surf Burger is not just food, but a real culinary experience that you will remember for a long time!
Pyra Bar – Garbary Street
If, like me, you love potatoes in any form, then Pyra Bar is a place you must visit! They specialize in potato dishes and serve them in a truly masterful style. Crispy potato pancakes, filling casseroles and aromatic potato cake are waiting for you – each of these dishes tastes like real home-made comfort food. Although the place looks modest, the taste, portion size and affordable prices make you always leave satisfied. On warmer days, you can relax in a cozy garden – although we are in the heart of the city, Pyra Bar is far enough out of the way that you can catch a moment’s grace there.
Grazie Mille Ristorante – Węglarska Street
I have a huge weakness for Italian cuisine, and Grazie Mille is a place that perfectly suits my culinary preferences! Their focaccia and pizzas are absolutely delicious, with every bite they take me straight to sunny Italy. The whole experience is complemented by a truly Italian atmosphere – soft background music and warm, stylish decor make you feel like you are in a small trattoria in the heart of Tuscany. If you dream of an authentic taste of Italy in Gdańsk, Grazie Mille is a perfect choice!
Summary
It is known that the choice of favorite/the best restaurants will always be subjective, because each of them brings not only taste, but also a unique atmosphere and memories – and, of course, personal preferences. I hope that my recommendations will inspire you to try new places, flavors and experiences that this extraordinary city has to offer. Regardless of whether you live in Gdańsk or are just visiting this place, it is worth getting carried away by a culinary adventure and letting each dish tell its own story. Enjoy your meal!
