Student accommodation in Gdansk: what it costs and what you get
Student accommodation in Gdansk costs between 1 870 and 3 039 zloty a month per person in a private hall of residence, depending on whether you take your own studio or share one. A place in a university hall starts at 430 zloty, but you have to be allocated one, and the results come out in August, four to eight weeks before the first of October. Below are the rates for both, the floor areas you get for that money, and travel times to the Medical University, the Technical University and the University of Gdansk.
What student accommodation in Gdansk costs
University halls and private halls are not two standards of the same thing. They are two separate markets, and the rates differ by a factor of three to six.

University rates come with a deposit. At the Technical University it is 700 zloty, due by 31 August, and if it does not arrive on time the place is gone.
With private halls it pays to read what „from” means. The lowest figure in a price list usually covers a bed in a twin room or the smallest studio, and those go first. Rates are quoted as all inclusive, with utilities and internet in the rent, so comparing them with a flat means adding bills to the flat’s rent.
What the extra money buys you
For 2 509 zloty you get a studio of ten to thirteen square metres. For 3 039 zloty a studio of nineteen to twenty four. A room in a flat shared with one other person starts at 2 089 zloty for ten square metres of your own space.
The rent covers utilities, internet, cleaning of shared areas and access to a gym or a study room. The contract runs for a fixed term, usually the academic year, and you do not have to find a flatmate or negotiate with a landlord. That is real value, and it is why this market is growing.
Two things the money does not buy. The first is floor area: ten square metres is a bed, a desk and a wardrobe, with no room for anything else. The second is the address. The largest private hall in Gdansk stands on Kolobrzeska in Przymorze, another on Robotnicza, a third on Sobieskiego in Wrzeszcz. None of them is in the very centre.
Student housing in Gdansk: a flat of your own instead of a room
If you are weighing student accommodation in Gdansk against renting a flat, compare two things at once: the figure and what stands behind it. A studio for 2 750 zloty in Przymorze and a furnished flat in the centre are two different years of study at a similar price.
Worth checking before you sign anything:
- Whether utilities are in the rent or billed separately. In a private hall they are included, in an ordinary tenancy usually not.
- How long the contract runs and what happens over the summer. The academic year runs from October to the end of June, and a twelve month contract means paying for July and August too.
- How large the deposit is and when it comes back.
- Whether the place is furnished or you bring your own.
To put a figure on it: a studio flat in the very centre of Gdansk costs 3 000 zloty a month, with utilities and fast internet in that amount. The smallest is 26 square metres, and half of the twenty nine studio flats on offer are 30 square metres or more. For comparison, the largest studio in a private hall costs 3 039 zloty and measures 19 to 24 square metres.
Apartmore rents furnished apartments in the very centre of Gdansk from one month upwards, with bills in a single amount and a contract in English. The academic year falls outside the tourist season, so rates in the centre are lower from October to May than they are in summer.
Travel times from the centre to each university
Measured in Google Maps on 17 September 2026, on a weekday at around eleven in the morning. Treat them as indicative, since public transport depends on the time of day.

The figures say something simple. From the centre, the Medical University and the Technical University are quicker to reach by bicycle than by public transport. The University of Gdansk in Oliwa is the one direction where the tram or the SKM train wins, and the only one where a central address genuinely adds to the journey.
When to look: the 2026/2027 timetable
The hall allocation calendar is public and worth knowing, because it marks the moment the private market gets crowded.

The winter semester starts on 1 October 2026 and runs to 21 February 2027, the summer semester from 22 February to 30 September 2027.
There are fewer places than applicants. The Technical University says so plainly on its page for incoming exchange students: there are not enough places for everyone interested, and they are allocated first come, first served. The University of Gdansk applies the same rule to its limited pool. So if you are waiting on an August result with no fallback, you will be looking for a flat at the same time as everyone else who did not get one.
Erasmus in Gdansk: where to live for one semester
An exchange student has a different problem from someone starting a full degree. You need a place for four or five months rather than a year, and you decide on it from the other end of Europe, without ever seeing the flat. That is why we walk you through the flat on video before you sign anything.
The deadlines are fixed and worth knowing, because they set the moment the search has to start:
- University of Gdansk: nomination by your home university by 15 May, your own application by 15 June for the winter semester. For the summer one, 15 November and 15 December.
- Gdansk University of Technology: nomination by 15 June, application by 30 June for the autumn semester. For spring, 30 November and 15 December.
- Medical University of Gdansk: one deadline for both semesters, 31 May.
What follows is simple. For the winter semester you know you are coming roughly four to five months ahead. For the summer one, two to three. That is all the time you have to find somewhere to live.
A place in halls is not guaranteed. The Technical University states plainly on its page for incoming students that there are not enough places for everyone interested, and that they are allocated first come, first served. The University of Gdansk treats its limited pool the same way. In 2024 the Technical University alone received 213 Erasmus+ students.
The winter semester 2026/2027 runs from 1 October to 21 February, the summer one from 22 February to 30 September. A contract for the academic year rather than twelve months means you are not paying for July and August, when you are not here anyway.
