Parking in Gdansk: what you pay in the city centre and where it is free
In Gdansk, unlike in most Polish cities, you pay for parking in the very centre at the weekend as well: in the Old Town and the Main Town the meter runs on Saturday and Sunday, until eight in the evening. Two streets away, in Dolne Miasto, the weekend costs you nothing. Below are the 2026 rates, the chargeable hours in each zone and the places where a full day comes to 21.60 zl instead of 87.30 zl.
How much parking costs in Gdansk city centre
Gdansk has sixteen parking sectors grouped into three colour coded zones. The rate climbs over the first three hours, then drops back to the first hour price from the fourth hour on.

The minimum charge is one zloty, so a quarter of an hour does not cost you a full hour. Motorcycles, quadricycles and quads are exempt.
Which zone covers which district:
The red zone, the city centre one, covers the Old Town together with 3 Maja street, the Main Town and Długie Ogrody. On Wyspa Spichrzów, the Granary Island, it covers Szafarnia, Spichrzowa, Stągiewna, Motławska and the stretch of Chmielna running north from Podwale Przedmiejskie towards the tip of the island.
The blue zone covers Młode Miasto, Dolne Miasto, Stare Przedmieście, all of Wrzeszcz, Przymorze and Jelitkowo.
Stare Przedmieście also takes in Jaglana and the other half of Chmielna, from Podwale Przedmiejskie down to Toruńska. The Granary Island is therefore split between two zones. On Szafarnia you pay every day until eight in the evening; at Chmielna 73 only Monday to Friday until five, which is 43.20 zl for a day instead of 87.30 zl.
The green zone covers Aniołki and Oliwa.
From 1 September 2026 charges also apply in the Nowe Ogrody sector, on Kurkowa and Strzelecka streets. That sector belongs to the blue zone.
Free parking in Gdansk: when you pay nothing
There are three situations in which you leave the car for free, and two of them work in the very centre.
After eight in the evening and before nine in the morning. In the red zone charging stops at 20:00. If you arrive for dinner or a concert, parking after eight is free until morning.
At the weekend, but only outside the red zone. In Dolne Miasto, Młode Miasto and Stare Przedmieście charges apply on working days only. On Saturday and Sunday you park free of charge, and Długi Targ is a walk of around fifteen minutes from there. In the Old Town and the Main Town this does not apply: you pay seven days a week.
In the green zone after three in the afternoon. Aniołki and Oliwa stop charging at 15:00, the earliest in the city.
If you are looking for free parking right by the Old Town in the middle of the day, the honest answer is that there is none. Free spaces start beyond the edge of the red zone and you need to add a fifteen minute walk.
Car parks and Forum Gdansk: when they work out cheaper
For a longer stay a multi storey car park almost always beats a space at the kerb.
The municipal car park on Okopowa street costs 2.50 zl for the first hour and 21.60 zl for a whole working day. It is a quarter of an hour on foot from our apartments on the Granary Island and in the Main Town. That is the same part of the city as the Main Town, and the difference against kerbside parking in the red zone is 65.70 zl a day. If you are leaving the car for a full day of sightseeing, this is the cheapest option in the centre.
Forum Gdansk sits at Targ Sienny, between the railway station and the Main Town, and is open around the clock. Between 22:00 and 8:00 you enter through a separate entrance from 3 Maja street. The price depends on the level: the higher you park, the cheaper it gets, and the gap between the second and the fifth level is 2 zl an hour. Helios cinema customers get the first three hours free, City Fit customers two, and Media Markt and EUROSPAR add two hours each on purchases from 50 zl and from 30 zl respectively. How to pay and what a fine costs
At the machine you can pay with coins, with BLIK and contactless by card. Mobile apps are more convenient, because they let you extend the stay without walking back to the car. The Gdansk Roads Authority lists five: Mobilet, SkyCash, AnyPark, Flowbird and Electronic Parking. Some banking apps handle the payment as well. When you pay you pick the sector code: GDAF for the red zone, GDAA for the blue one, GDAB for the green one and GDAG for the Okopowa car park.
Enforcement is carried out by wardens on foot and by a scanner car that drives along the streets, reads number plates and checks in the system whether the stay has been paid for. The additional charge for unpaid parking is 170 zl if you pay within fourteen days of receiving the notice, and 300 zl after that. You get the same charge for overstaying and for parking in a sector other than the one you bought the ticket for. That last mistake happens most often on the boundary between zones.
Where to park near the Old Town and Wyspa Spichrzów
A day in the Old Town. Leave the car at the Okopowa car park and walk. Twenty one zlotys for a whole working day against eighty seven on the street is a difference that buys two people lunch.
A weekend. Look for a space in Dolne Miasto or Stare Przedmieście. On Saturday and Sunday you pay nothing there, and the Crane is a fifteen minute walk along the Motlawa.
An evening. Arriving after eight, you can stop in the very centre at no charge. In the morning remember that in the red zone the meter starts at nine, on Sunday too.
Several days with the car standing still. The cheapest answer is an apartment with a space in the underground car park. Most Apartmore apartments in the very centre have one, at no extra charge, booked in advance. You are not hunting for a space on arrival, not counting hours and not moving the car in the morning.
