How do I get from the Gdańsk airport to downtown Gdańsk?

· 13 min czytania

Updated:

Lech Wałęsa Airport (GDN) is located in Rębiechowo, about 10 kilometers from the very center of Gdańsk. The route is short, but there isn’t one obvious way to cover it — the train requires a change, the bus takes longer, and a taxi costs several dozen times more than a ticket. Below, we’ve gathered all round-trip options, with travel times and what’s worthwhile when.

How to get there — comparison

MethodTime to city centerCostWhen to choose
PKM + SKM (change in Wrzeszcz)approx. 35–40 mintrain ticketmost reliable travel time, plenty of luggage space
Bus 210 (direct)approx. 40–50 minpublic transport ticketno change, cheapest
Night bus N3approx. 50 minnight ticketafter 11:00 PM, when trains are no longer running

Public transport and train ticket prices change annually, which is why we deliberately don’t provide amounts here that quickly become outdated. You can find the current price list on the ZTM Gdańsk website and with the railway carrier, and you can buy a ticket in the app (jakdojade, mPay, SkyCash, moBiLET, zbilet), at a ticket machine, or from the conductor.

Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway (PKM)

From the airport, we can get to Wrzeszcz by train. The stop is located right next to the passenger terminal – you can walk directly through the tunnel or exit the building and take the stairs to the platform. You can buy tickets at ticket machines, online, or from the train conductor, and pay for them with either a credit/debit card or cash. Once the PKM arrives in Wrzeszcz (the trip takes about 25 minutes), you can transfer to the SKM (Szybka Kolej Miejska) and, after 8 minutes, you’ll be at Gdańsk Main Station. Importantly, with a ticket to Gdańsk Główny Station, you walk from Platform 1 to Platform 3 and board the SKM train to Gdańsk Główny Station using the same ticket.

Trains also depart from the airport for Gdynia Główna, Kościerzyna, and Kartuzy. The detailed PKM schedule is available at www.pkm-sa.pl.

Among the advantages of this solution are the speed of travel, a comfortable ride, plenty of luggage space, and the fact that delays and breakdowns are very rare.

Bus from Gdańsk Airport

Several bus lines run from the airport towards Gdańsk. You can take bus line 110 to Wrzeszcz PKP Station, bus no. 210 will take you to the Main Station (but the journey takes almost 40 minutes), and after 11:00 PM, you can reach the city center on the N3 night bus, which runs every hour. You can buy bus tickets from vending machines at bus stops, from the vending machine on board the bus (line 210), and through mobile apps (GoPay, jakdojade.pl, moBiLET, mPay, SkyCash, and zbilet).

Gdańsk Airport Bus

The biggest advantage of the bus is the price — it’s the cheapest way to get from the airport to the city. Disadvantages: during peak hours, you have to contend with traffic jams, limited seating, and crowding, and there’s practically no space for large suitcases. If you’re flying with one piece of carry-on luggage, the bus is fine; with family and suitcases — probably not.

Taxi/Uber/Bolt

A very convenient form of transport from the airport is a taxi ride. The taxi stand is located right outside the building. The biggest advantage of taxis is that you don’t have to wait for other passengers – you are served individually, taken to the specified address, and taxis are available at any time. However, it is quite an expensive means of transport.

Alternatives to taxis are Uber and Bolt. They are usually cheaper than a taxi from the stand outside the terminal, but the difference can disappear during peak hours and with so-called dynamic pricing, when several planes land in a short time. Before you leave the arrivals hall, check the fare in the app — a comparison takes a moment, and the difference can be several dozen zloty.

A few things worth knowing: the journey to the city center usually takes 20–25 minutes, and outside peak hours, it can be shorter than a train with a change. App drivers pick up from a designated spot near the terminal, not from the taxi stand — the app will show you where to go. A night fare costs more than during the day. If you want to know the price upfront and be sure someone will wait despite a flight delay, consider a pre-booked transfer.

Transfer and private transport

Besides taxis and apps, there are transport companies where you book a spot in advance, providing your flight number. The practical difference from a taxi is: the price is fixed before arrival and doesn’t change due to traffic or time of day, the driver tracks the flight and waits if the plane is delayed, and for a larger group, you can order a car for six or eight people. This solution makes sense if several people are arriving with luggage or if you land at night and don’t want to look for anything on the spot.

Going the other way — from the city to the airport — booking a transfer a day in advance saves the most stress, because morning flights depart when public transport is just starting up.

From Gdańsk city center to the airport

The return journey looks similar but has two catches: the schedule and peak hours.

By train. From Gdańsk Main Station, you take the SKM to Gdańsk Wrzeszcz (a few minutes), then transfer to the PKM towards the airport. The entire route takes about 35–40 minutes plus waiting time for the transfer, so it’s worth adding an extra fifteen minutes just in case. Check the schedule the evening before your flight — for very early morning flights, the train might not be running yet.

By bus. Line 210 goes directly from Gdańsk Main Station to the terminal, taking about 40–50 minutes. During morning peak hours, the route lengthens, so for a flight before 8 AM, it’s a risky choice.

By taxi or app. Approximately 20–25 minutes outside peak hours. This is the safest option for flights before 7 AM and after 11 PM, when public transport is infrequent.

General rule: depart for the airport with more time than the travel time itself suggests. Check-in, security control, and the walk to the gate take another several dozen minutes, and morning traffic on Aleja Grunwaldzka can be surprising.

How to get from Gdańsk Airport to the city center?
The fastest and most reliable way is by train: PKM from the stop next to the terminal to Gdańsk Wrzeszcz, then transfer to SKM to Gdańsk Main Station — together about 35–40 minutes, on one ticket. You can get there directly by bus line 210, which goes from the airport straight to Gdańsk Main Station in about 40–50 minutes. A taxi, Uber, or Bolt takes about 20–25 minutes outside peak hours.
How to get from Gdańsk city center to the airport?
The same route in reverse: SKM from Gdańsk Main Station to Gdańsk Wrzeszcz, then transfer to PKM towards the airport, totaling about 35–40 minutes plus waiting time for the transfer. You can get there directly by bus line 210 in about 40–50 minutes. For a flight before 7 AM, a taxi or a pre-booked transfer is more reliable, as trains and buses run infrequently then.
How much does a taxi from Gdańsk Airport to the city center cost?
It’s several dozen zloty and depends on the time of day, the carrier, and whether dynamic pricing is currently in effect. Rides ordered through apps can be cheaper than a taxi from the stand outside the terminal, but during peak hours, this difference can disappear. It’s best to check the current fare in the app before leaving the arrivals hall — a comparison takes a moment.
Where is the taxi stand at Gdańsk Airport?
The taxi stand is located right outside the passenger terminal, on the arrivals side. Drivers ordered through apps pick up from a separate, designated spot — the app will show you exactly where to go, and it’s usually several dozen meters further than the taxi stand.
How long does it take to get from Gdańsk Airport to Gdańsk Main Station?
By PKM train with a transfer to SKM in Wrzeszcz, it’s about 35–40 minutes. By bus line 210 directly to the station — about 40–50 minutes. By car, taxi, or app, the journey usually takes 20–25 minutes, longer during morning and afternoon peak hours.
How far is Gdańsk Airport from the city center?
About 10 kilometers as the crow flies. The airport is located in Rębiechowo, on the western edge of the city, and most access routes end at Gdańsk Main Station, from where it’s a fifteen-minute walk to Długi Targ and Wyspa Spichrzów.
Does a night bus run from Gdańsk Airport?
Yes. After 11:00 PM, when trains are no longer running, the N3 night bus goes towards the city center. It runs less frequently than day lines, approximately every hour, so it’s worth checking the schedule before a night landing — or pre-booking a transfer.
Is it worth booking a transfer from the airport?
It makes sense in three situations: if several people are traveling with luggage, if you land at night or very early in the morning, and if you want to know the cost before arrival. The transport company sets the price upfront, tracks the flight number, and waits despite delays. For a single person with a backpack, the train is usually cheaper.
Does the PKM ticket include a transfer to SKM?
Yes — when traveling from the airport to Gdańsk Main Station, you transfer in Wrzeszcz from one platform to another and continue your journey on the same ticket, provided you bought it to the destination station Gdańsk Main Station. You can buy tickets at the ticket machine on the platform, in the app, or from the conductor, by card or cash.
